False Christianity; The Church of Latter Day Saints

In Matthew 24:24-25, Jesus gives us this warning;
For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand.
But how would it be possible to lead astray even the elect? By preaching something that is very close to the gospel, by making minor changes to God’s word so that what they say sounds right with God but actually isn’t. Many religions have come up this way and have deceived many people. Satan knows that the best way to lead people away from God is to trick them into thinking that they are following God while actually leading them astray. Satan after all is the great deceiver. Paul gives us this advice in how to tell the false prophets in 1 Thessalonians 5: 20-22;
Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.

But how are we supposed to test the prophecies? The same way you would test anything for a counterfeit, compare it to an original, in this case the bible. By comparing what different religions say against what the bible says, we can determine right from wrong. I have done this with the Jehovah’s Witnesses and now will do the same test with the Church of Latter Day Saints, or Mormons.
The biggest problem I have with them is the book of Mormon. Revelation 21:18-19 has this warning;
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
This passage makes me suspicious of another whole book, but to be sure, I have compared what they say about the book of Mormon and it’s origins against God’s word and here is what I have found.
On their website, I found this explaining where the book of Mormon comes from.

As Joseph sought truth among the different faiths, he turned to the Bible for guidance. He read, “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him” ( James 1:5). Because of this passage, Joseph decided to ask God what he should do. In the spring of 1820 he went to a nearby grove of trees and knelt in prayer. He described his experience: “I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. . . . When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” ( Joseph Smith—History 1:16–17).

This is the story of how Joseph Smith was first lead to the scriptures of the book of Mormon. Joseph Smith was confused between all of the different denominations of Christianity and wanted to find the right one. The first thing that Joseph Smith did was correct, praying to God for wisdom. But, if he really did have this vision, what he didn’t do was test it against God’s word to see if it was true. If he had, he would have realized that at no time has anybody ever seen both God the Father and the Son. When Moses wanted to see God, he was told in Exodus 33:20;
But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.”
God the Father is much too powerful for anyone to see and live. Moses, who was extremely close to God, was only allowed to get a glimpse of God’s back as He walked by.
When Peter, James and John saw Jesus transfigured on the mount, They saw Jesus with Moses and Elijah, and they heard a voice from heaven saying pretty much the same thing that Joseph Smith heard, but they didn’t see another person.
Even when the apostle John was taken to heaven to receive the book of Revelation, he saw Jesus, and heard a voice from the temple, but saw no other personage of God. The bible shows us that God has never revealed Himself in the way described by John Smith, not even to His closest disciples.
The Mormons explain the book of Mormon this way on their site.
The book verifies, as another testament of Christ, the reality and divinity of Jesus Christ. It is, then, a second witness that affirms the truth of the Bible.
I once had a missionary tell me that her pastor explained it like this. “God’s word is like a board, and the bible is the nail that holds the board. But with only one nail, the board can be twisted around. The book of Mormon is the second nail that holds the board steady.” My reply to this is the bible has 66 books, written by 40 different people, no more nails are needed!
The book of Mormon is one of the false teachings of the church, there are others like praying for the unsaved dead. You alone can make the decision to accept Christ and believe that He is God and has already offered forgiveness for your sin by dying on the cross. Once you die, if you haven’t accepted this gift, it’s too late, no one can do it for you! If you haven’t believed and accepted God’s gift of salvation, I pray that you do before it’s too late.
